Brentwood Bans Future Oil and Gas Drilling Near Sensitive Areas
Brentwood City Council unanimously approved new regulations prohibiting future oil and gas drilling in specific areas close to homes, parks, schools, and other sensitive locations. This follows a similar ban enacted by neighboring Antioch earlier in 2022.
New rules target Garin Ranch and Sciortino Ranch developments, excluding oil and gas activities as permitted uses.
A 3,200-foot buffer zone is established between new drilling sites and residents considered vulnerable to air pollution.
The ban aligns with Brentwood's climate goals and complements Contra Costa County's planned revisions to its oil and gas regulations.
This move sets a precedent for other cities in the region to consider similar restrictions.
